Personal Assistant

I provide specialised Personal Assistant support for children, young people, adults and their families. I have experience of working with children and adults who have a range of additional needs and disabilities including: Learning Disabilities, Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Differences, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and support people without a diagnosis across a range of ages from 5yrs-Adult

ELC support a number of children and adults in a variety of ways such as; staying active, developing social relationships, communication skills, accessing community activities, promoting independence skills and all the wrap around support that is required to ensure this can happen.

I understand the need to build relationships at a pace appropriate to each individual and respect personal choices whilst offering familiar and new opportunities where possible.

It can be hard to let someone new into your lives – especially if you have had some negative experiences, which I understand many families/individuals who have a child/adult with disabilities have had. We can work respectfully together over time to build sessions or programmes to suit your personal situation.

I understand that each developmental stage of a child and young persons life has it’s challenges. A PA can offer support to a person and their family that can have a positive impact on the family unit at different stages….

  • Into full time school
  • Into group settings that can be overstimulating
  • Emotional processing
  • Developing social relationships
  • Transitions between schools or new groups
  • New environments
  • Transition from child to adult services or settings
  • Liaising with social care or professionals

Many families employ PA’s themselves or through agencies. ELC offer a direct service to the family/individual. We are fully insured and experienced. I will always provide the costs and information for you to consider before any work starts. I work with individuals who have social care direct payments (children and adults) in place as a self employed PA. I can also support people who may not be registered for direct payments.

Examples of services available include:

  • Full day activities or trips
  • Accessing sports clubs, outdoor or community activities
  • A confidence building journey starting with home based activities to progressively leaving the house comfortably
  • Post education/transition to adulthood independence skills and activities
  • Meeting up with friends or family
  • Support liaising with education, social care or similar

We also offer short breaks and holidays to some of our team members who we have built a long term relationship with where this is appropriate.

Inclusion in Sport

Everybody should be able to access sport and physical activity for their own enjoyment, achievement and physical & mental wellbeing.

Our aim is to support your club or organisation with this vision.

You may have received enquiries from an individual or a parent asking whether your sessions are inclusive or able to cater for someone with a specific disability or additional need.

Or

You are wanting to set up additional sessions to offer a more inclusive programme.

Or

You maybe running a session already and the dynamics in the group may not be working as effectively as they could.

How can we help?

  • Your coaches may need a bit of extra confidence in ensuring that a new member with a disability or additional need has a positive experience.
  • Your club committee have the right vision of inclusion in sport but need some external support to add value to their ideas.
  • Your club would like some general support in improving inclusion in your programme, ethos, sessions etc.
  • I can provide 1:1 support to an individual  to help their transition into an activity. If you are an individual, parent/carer or club coach who would like to request this please get in touch.

I will always provide costs for any services upfront for you to discuss with your organisation.

Step One: Get in touch with your enquiry
Step Two: A Consultation visit offering guidance and considering next steps
Step Three: From this point I can be as involved as you would like me to be.

I will aim to understand your club setting, listen and suggest ideas all the way through to supporting sessions,  individuals and coaches. My approach is friendly and non-judgemental because my ultimate aim is to improve inclusion in sport.

For example…

Your Vision: Your recreational sessions are not meeting the needs of the whole group. Some members are not participating fully in the session or there are a number of distracting factors that are affecting the group dynamic.

Step One: Get in touch for a chat.
Step Two: I will visit you either during an active session or before/after to support planning and reflection. I can offer advice and guidance/individual support. This a set cost of £80
Step Three: I work more closely with the club/session staff to develop confidence and skills to make your vision become a reality.

  • Inclusive training with existing coaches/leaders on how to support individuals who may need extra support
  • Sharing ideas and positive plans
  • Training/Meeting with key club personnel
  • Attending active sessions to offer support or observation
  • Liaison with individuals or family members to support with communication

Every club and session is different so I will work with each organisation in a personalised way. I don’t offer a formal training programme. National Governing Bodies of Sport can offer this and I would recommend combining our support alongside their accreditations.

Leadership & Volunteering Academies

Your group requires a specific ratio of leaders to meet the requirements set out with your governing body, insurance or for other formal reasons depending on your group or organisation.

However, imagine having those extra pair of hands who could help in one or more of the following situations;

  • Setting up equipment before a session
  • Taking registers
  • Changing equipment over during a session
  • Supervising a refreshments break
  • Supporting a participant who is not fully engaged in the session who may need a bit extra support
  • Offering specific sports feedback to individual participants
  • Supporting changeover of sessions

Volunteer Leaders would still be fully supervised by the lead personnel (sports coaches or instructors) in your group. They would not have legal responsibility (unless qualified and insured to do so) but their input can be invaluable for your group.

We don’t need to convince you of all of these facts – you are reading this because you know and appreciate the value of young leaders. What you want to know is how we can help you build and develop a Leadership Programme that works for YOUR organisation.
